Scarborough Denim Gansey Kit

Scarborough is a thriving seaside town which has a busy harbour and fishing fleet.  It is much larger than the other places mentioned here and patterns have been much more difficult to trace.  Many of the interesting gansies spotted here in the past were on visiting fishermen and many different boats would call into this port.  The Scottish herring fleet would visit on Autumn week-ends on its way south, the men rarely fished or travelled far on a Sunday.  The most traditional pattern has a deep yoke of double moss stitch, known as hit and miss.  The yoke has been edged with ladder stitch up to the shoulders.
