Patrington Denim Gansey Kit

Patrington is a small village north of Kingston-upon-Hull, which used to have an inshore harbour on the Humber Estuary.  The men caught cod, salmon, crabs and lobsters, and boats were landed on the beach.  Most of the fishing families have now moved away and knitting for the fishermen is no longer important but this pattern has been saved by the Women’s’ Institute in York and is believed to be exclusive to Patrington and Withernsea.  It has a patterned yoke composed of alternate panels of ladder stitch and double moss stitch, divided by ropes (cables).  Two ropes, side by side, form the centre front and back
